Indulge in the rich, comforting world of classic British pastry in our Pies, Puddings & Tarts cookery class—a celebration of hearty savoury bakes and timeless sweet treats. This hands-on experience is all about mastering traditional pastry skills and bringing home the kind of dishes that warm both the heart and the table.

Guided by our expert chef, you’ll explore a variety of techniques, from working with buttery shortcrust and flaky pastry to handling traditional suet. You’ll create a stunning Game Pie with Cranberries & Chestnuts, packed with flavour and wrapped in golden pastry, and tackle the much-loved Rag Pudding, a suet-based Northern favourite, before turning your attention to the sweet side with a nostalgic Jam Roly Poly and a beautifully crafted Raspberry Tart.

The day begins with a warm welcome and a coffee, as you chat with your chef about the dishes ahead. Then it’s into the kitchen for a mix of demonstrations and practical cookery, where you’ll roll, fill, crimp and glaze your way through the menu under expert guidance.

We focus on teaching techniques rather than just recipes, helping you build confidence that lasts beyond the class. Some of the more time-intensive components may be prepared in advance so you can spend more time learning and enjoying the hands-on process.

We won’t give you printed recipes during the session, to help you stay immersed in the experience—but a full recipe pack will be emailed to you afterwards. Our chefs are always happy to answer questions during or after the class.

There will be a short break for lunch where you’ll head to the dining room to enjoy your culinary creations with a glass of wine or a soft drink.

If you’d like to take any of your dishes home with you, please bring suitable containers. Please note – we are unable to accept responsibility or liability for food taken out of the cookery school.
